GOP tax plan for state could pass today Corts
Ohio Senate may approve a Republican backed tax proposal that would raise about 700 million annually through a 1.5 percent sales tax increase and a new corporate tax from 3.5 to 6.5 percent. Sen. Robert J. Corts told East Elyria Kiwanis that the measure could fund state services and supply about one third of Gov. Gilligan’s requested total, amid Senate tax debate and voter backlash to higher levies. He noted welfare funding would rise by 22 percent under the plan, with education and pollution controls cited as needs for new revenue.
