George W. Brian division manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio in Elyria will retire Oct 1 after more than 46 years of service. Lloyd P. McIntire will succeed him as Elyria division manager and Paul E. Fackler will become Lorain area manager. Brian began as a clerk in Ashland in 1925 and became Elyria division manager in 1959.

Edward J. Gould a retired Lorain industrialist and civic leader was honored at a testimonial dinner by Bishop Clarence Issenmann. He received a plaque and St Joseph Hospital will name a new auditorium after him as part of its expansion. Medina County sheriff's deputies destroyed a growing marijuana patch in a Liverpool Township field. A spokesman said the plants filled four large bags and valued the seeds and plants at about $900 to $1,000. The area remains under surveillance with suspected additional patches nearby.

Elyria Committee Backs Change to Zone R-3 Limits

Elyria’s Malcolm Manor urban renewal plan received a $393,670 federal boost from the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development. The check opens federal funding for a $1.2 million project including land purchases and improvements around the Cleveland Street Hast Bridge Street Gulf Road intersection.
