In Youngstown Ohio on September 24 Louis Grant, 35, shot and killed himself after seriously wounding his housekeeper Mrs Ida Hoffman Hageman. They lived at Nues Brant 158. he reportedly acted after she spurned his advances.
A frigid air mass from the northwest brings record cold to Chicago and Evanston with snow and sleet in parts of the Midwest. Rain and low temperatures persist as officials urge precautions against the chill.
James Roe a 34 year old Elyria man died after a hit skop crash at the corner of Burhd and E 64th street in Cleveland. Roe suffered a fractured skull and a broken left leg and died at St Luke's hospital. The driver fled but a taxi driver was detained for questioning. Roe lived with Mr and Mrs Pat Wood of Park Avenue. His mother and two sisters in Connecticut were notified. He belonged to the Elks and Masonic orders.
The Rev. Lamb of the Ohio Conference of Churches told Northeast Ohio Methodist ministers that denominationalism hinders rural church work. He urged binding churches to cooperate, noting many counties in Ohio lack active churches and suggesting funding consolidate efforts for better pastor salaries and results.
In Columbus on September 24, Assistant Attorney General H H Griswold said he will file a demurrer in the State Supreme Court for Secretary of State Thad Brown regarding a suit by former State Senator J F Burke and the Primary Defense League. The action seeks to block placing on the November ballot a proposed state constitutional amendment altering the primary election system. The hearing is moved up to September 28 to meet legal deadlines for distributing pro and con arguments to Ohio’s 7 500 000 voters.
Akron Sept. 21. Disregarding a suit to stop the vote on the proposed primary amendment in the supreme court, state primary referendum committee chairman Tf. Kutgsht issued a call for friends of the amendment to meet here Tuesday. Plans then will be formulated for campaign. Knight had refused to join with J F. Burke of Blythe, chairman of the primary defense league, in asking the secretary of state to withdraw petitions for statewide vote to modify the primary law.
