The 6400 Ford workers back on lines after a two week Lorain Assembly and Avon Lake Truck Plant strike ended with an 82 percent vote to accept Ford's offer. 700 Brook Park workers lay off briefly due to high engine inventories, to be recalled by week end.
Attendance at the fifth annual Apple Festival reached about 90,000, though organizers expected more. Festival chair Lyle Crosby said many out of town visitors called it among the best festivals they have attended.
Applethon winners were celebrated as Ely Square drew strong Friday and Saturday crowds, but Sunday turnout dipped. Organizers hoped for 100000 attendees, beating last year's 75000. Bees were minor issues with prompt treatment for stings, vendor receipts up 25 percent, and 63 participants in the Appleseeders' Fun Walk.
First lady Nancy Reagan flies to Mexico City for a three hour visit to meet President Miguel de la Madrid and survivors. She tours an emergency shelter and a hospital with Mexican first lady Paloma Cordero de la Madrid, conveying American sympathy and solidarity.

Local Hispanic community groups plan a Mexican dinner and fundraiser while Salvation Army and Red Cross mobilize aid and set up a Mexican Earthquake Fund. Weather outlook calls for showers tonight and cooler conditions Tuesday.
