Brain surgery started on wrong side of skull
A Bridgeport hospital emergency procedure began with an incision on the left side of a patient’s skull before surgeons corrected course and completed the operation on the right side. The patient’s condition remained critical but stable after the clot removal. The surgeon’s privileges were suspended during the investigation.

Girl slain in fight over boy near Rochester school
An 18-year-old girl, Stephany Givens, was stabbed to death outside Jefferson Middle School in Rochester during an argument over a boy. A 12-year-old student was arrested. the killer’s age limits murder charges, with possible juvenile detention.

Killer of four executed in Raleigh
Phillip Ingle, 34, described by authorities as mentally ill, was executed by injection for 1991 murders of two elderly couples. He claimed the killings were God’s work against devils with red eyes and horns. The Supreme Court denied a stay.
