Town Hall Fire Sparks Reconstruction and Odd Cornerstone
A Southern state town suffered a near total town hall blaze that destroyed the 19th century building. The corner stone from the original structure was recovered from the ruins and mysteriously placed upside down in the new hall, a fact only uncovered after a worker noticed a marking. Local residents aided by volunteers chased the fire through the night but found no source, as the alarm traced to a siren short circuit.
