Warning By Chamberlain As Hitler Firm On Sudetenland
London dispatch details a decisive wartime exchange between Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler at Godesberg. Chamberlain outlined a plan with Britain and France to satisfy German demands for Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland, contingent on a peaceful process and an international frontier commission. He warned that failure to proceed peacefully would keep the Franco British military pact in force. Hitler insisted there was no alternative but to march into the Sudetenland, ending the conversation as Chamberlain prepared a letter urging Hitler to avoid strikes during the talks.
