Doman’s Guitar Land recalls Elyria retail history
Sam Doman, lifelong Elyria resident, reflects on the Corner of Gulf Road and Cleveland Street where Doman’s Guitar Land opened in 1964. The two story building dated to 1910 housed Kroger, Honey Dip Donut Shop, Bill Vargo’s, Jim Super’s, Jack Knight Drycleaners, and Dale Slutzker’s Barber Shop before being razed for a Walmart. The shop marked Doman’s first retail music venture, born from need as the Beatles reshaped popular music and rock ’n’ roll opportunities emerged.
