Case of battered woman faces new trial horror eight years

Scott grew up in Chicago and had two children before marriage broke. In 1971 she moved to a Kankakee house with Lee, 14 years older, a jailer. She testified Lee began beating her a few months after, with increasing violence through 1979. He confined and assaulted her, using belts, bottles, a gun, handcuffs, and threats, while her children witnessed some attacks. Psychologists cite typical battered-woman responses and testify she fits the pattern.
