5 000 layoffs at Youngstown steel plant

Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co will shut down a wide range of Campbell Works production and shift it to Indiana Harbor Works near Chicago. About 5,000 local workers will lose jobs, while the company keeps 17,000 elsewhere. Overall output drops from 1.8 million to 0.5 million tons locally.

Bomb blasts hit four Miami hotels in pre-dawn attack

Four major Miami area hotels were rocked by bombs set by the Pedro Luis Borie Commandos, an anti Fidel Castro exile group. There were no injuries. The blasts struck Dupont Plaza Fontainebleau Eden Roc and the Sheraton Four Ambassadors as Cuban exile protests loomed ahead of a planned march.
