Cost of living hits record high for sixth straight month

The July 15 to August 15 period saw a 0.2 percent retail price rise as inflation pushes costs higher. About 1,250,000 railroad workers gain a two-cent hourly escalator wage boost, with gains also affecting 200,000 northern textile workers and some aircraft and city transit workers. Food prices rose 0.3 percent led by an eggs surge of 41 percent and meats up 2.6 percent.
