Somoza Assassination Attributed to Foreign Extremists
Paraguayan authorities say six commandos murdered former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza in broad daylight. A female Argentine guerrilla fighter and two others from the Revolutionary Army of the People were named among the attackers. Somoza's car was ambushed, 25 bullets fired, then blown apart by a bazooka near his home. Two others, including a Colombian adviser and a chauffeur, also died. Police described the hit as the work of foreign extremists with ties to Nazi-leaning fugitives in Paraguay.
