Cry Macho review shows Clint Eastwood’s late-career reflection
The piece describes Cry Macho as a road movie about an old man and a boy with a rooster, calling it Eastwood’s 39th credited directing effort and his first Western since Unforgiven. It notes Eastwood at 91 making films, the cast including Natalia Traven and Dwight Yoakam, and the film’s blunt exposition and themes of machismo.

Cry Macho review notes a mixed but heartfelt frontier tale
The film follows Mike in a Texas to Mexico mission to retrieve a boy named Rafe, with a talking rooster and a magnum of Eastwood’s nostalgia. It features strong images and some sharp grace notes but falters with implausible plot shifts and uneven dialogue.
