Watergate seven indicted in Democratic HQ break-in

Cuyahoga River cleanup wraps up oil spill

Workers using skimming gear and buckets yesterday finished removing xylene spilled into the Cuyahoga River. An estimated 15 000 to 20 000 gallons leaked from an Everlyte Co division storage tank of Koppers Co. in Cleveland. The incident prompted a river cleanup completed by local crews.

Empire State Building to dim lights on foggy nights

Flood lights for the building’s top 30 floors will be switched off during cloudy and foggy nights to avoid disorienting migrating birds. A separate report notes injuries in Portsmouth Ohio as a man is hospitalized after a blast incident.

Hijackers free passengers after ransom in Sweden and Croatia

Three hijackers of a Swedish airliner surrendered to Spanish police at Madrid Airport with six Croatian prisoners released to Swedish authorities. The hijackers freed 83 passengers, received 105000 dollars in ransom, two pilots and two stewardesses remained in custody, while three hijackers and six Croatians were detained. Miro Baresic and Andjelko Brajcavich, convicted in 1971 of murdering the Yugoslav ambassador, were among the freed terrorists.

NOACA officials optimistic on HUD recertification progress

NOACA leaders reported optimism about partial HUD recertification after a Columbus meeting with Fergus Theibert of Ohio HUD. The move would restore operating funds for planning and operations, though final signatures are pending in Chicago and the process will take about a week.

Olmsted Falls man dies in 1 car crash on Bagley Road

Kurt C. Wycoff 28 of 8850 Lindbury Blvd. Olmsted Falls died after his eastbound car left Bagley Road, struck a utility pole and overturned onto Richard Newtoski property near Yonkoff Street. Police say excessive speed caused the 2:37 a.m. crash and Wycoff died at Elyria Memorial Hospital.
