Gas service disruption affects 13000 Ohio customers

About 13 000 customers in Avon Lake Bay Village North Ridgeville and nearby areas lost gas service yesterday when a worker closed a main line valve during a new line installation. Crews restored Bay View Hospital by 8 30 a m with most other areas to follow tonight.

Nixon may soften withdrawal position in talks

U S presidents advisors edge toward modifying the Viet Cong North Vietnamese demand for a 1971 withdrawal date to gain freedom for prisoners. Paris talks stall on POW issues as both sides seek a break while peace activists in Hanoi publish tapes claiming POWs form a peace movement. Nixon plans a November troop withdrawal decision, with possible rapid troop reductions by spring if Hanoi responds.

Anti U S violence in Vietnam rises with Saigon attacks

In Saigon an anti American demonstration broke out at Long Binh base injuring nine civilians after a U S Army truck hit a civilian bus. The U S Embassy urged protective security measures amid firebombings and the Tu Do nightclub bombing that killed 15 and injured 57. Senator McGovern urged Nixon to pull all troops as protests spread.

Lorain Rider Killed in Westside Motorcycle Crash

A motorcyclist from Lorain identified as Young died when his bike hit an eastbound car turning into a bait store lot near the 21st Street overpass at 6:59 p.m. Edward Mack 27 of Fulton Road drove the car. The incident damaged both vehicles. Young had served in Germany and joined The Spokesmen motorcycle club after discharge. He worked in Standard Oil Co. Cleveland computer department.

Look magazine to end publication in October 19 issue

New York AP reports Look magazine will cease publication with the Oct 19 issue. Publisher Gardner Cowles cites rising costs especially postal rates and shrinking ad revenue, noting 28 million readers and strong renewals but insufficient advertising to sustain the title.
