Justice too harsh here firing at intruders sparked prison terms

Lance says he will continue as budget director

In Washington Bert Lance rejected resignation rumors saying he will keep working at the Office of Management and Budget. Senator Gary Hart urged his departure, while Lance prepared to testify before the Senate Government Affairs Committee and face questions over personal financial troubles.

Sandy soil and extended cultivation produced an outstanding harvest at Alva and Mrs. Clarke's home on Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville. Mrs. Clarke notes unusually large gourds, including a specimen over 28 inches. The couple shares produce daily and highlights a five pound sweet potato feeding seven.

Kent State retrial seen as victory by victims' kin

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a retrial in the $46 million Kent State shootings case against Ohio Governor Rhodes and others. Victims’ families expect liability and a favorable outcome. Separately, the court allowed a gym at the campus site to proceed, despite protests seeking a national monument. The May 4, 1970 shootings remain the hinge of the dispute.

Twelve U.S. Cities Named New Gateways to Europe

The Civil Aeronautics Board tentatively designates twelve U S cities as gateways for European air routes. Pending presidential approval the plan would allow non stop flights from the north to Scandinavia from the south to Paris and from Texas and the Midwest including Cleveland to London.

Berlin Heights N-plant rejected by staff report

The Ohio Power Siting Commission staff says the proposed Exie Nuclear Power Plant in Berlin Heights is not needed and does not meet stability criteria for approval. Hearings continue as opponents study the staff report before a final site decision.
