Gilford reports sales rise and merger plans
Gilford Instrument Laboratories Inc reports record sales up almost 15 percent for the year ending July 31 and a 20 percent gain for the three month period. The firm declares an 85 cent dividend payable Sept 18. Proceeds include about 13 cents from life insurance. Avon Athletic Boosters Club reopens its old battery drive to fund Avon schools, with drop-off sites and pickup calls. Merger talks with Corning Glass Works are on schedule, with SEC filing and proxy mailing to shareholders planned by mid-month and a shareholders meeting set for early or mid October.

Senior citizens may register to audit Lorain County Community College courses on a tuition free basis if space is available. More than 380 day evening and weekend fall classes are offered. Tuition is waived but a one time application fee and material costs apply. Registration runs 8:30 to 8:30 in the college admissions office on the second floor. Classes start the week of Sept 15.
