Negotiations between the North Ridgeville school board and Chapter 276 of the Ohio Association of Public School Employes deteriorate with a possible work stoppage by 6 a.m. Tuesday. The union seeks 42 cents an hour raise plus better benefits. the board offers 10 cents due to budget limits.

Lorainite killed as youths charged in shooting incident
In Lorain at 24th Street and Oakdale Avenue a man was killed and another wounded while stopping to help two girls believed chased. David Ratcliff 24 died at St Joseph Hospital. Ronald Chariton 19 was charged with first degree murder and shooting with intent to kill. Oscar Patton Jr. 20 is being held as a witness. The shooter remains at large.

Southern California hit by strong quake tremors
A major rolling earthquake and two smaller shocks rattled Southern California this morning, shaking Los Angeles to San Diego. The 7:31 a.m. quake lasted about 15 seconds, registered 4.5 to 5.0, and caused no major damage, with Riverside reporting additional tremors at 7:10 and 7:35. Caltech placed the epicenter about 50 miles east of LA between Mt Baldy and San Bernardino.
