Lorain Woman Killed In Bypass Collision With Gas Truck
A 20 year old Lorain woman died when a car carrying her turned left on red into a Shell Oil gasoline truck at Kennedy Memorial Parkway and Gulf Road. Three thousand five hundred gallons of gasoline spilled but did not ignite. The driver, Melvin Church, 39, Lorain, was charged with several traffic offenses. Edna Portis, 23, and Norma Carson, 26, were injured. The truck driver, Raymond Jenkins, 26, Cleveland, was uninjured. Police recovered marijuana from Church after the crash.

Former Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev died at age 77 from a massive heart attack. He was ousted from power in 1964 and will be buried at Novodevichy Cemetery. Born April 17, 1894 in Kalinovka, he rose from peasant roots to lead the Soviet Union after Stalin and played a central role in postwar politics.

Gun wound death on Elbe Street in Elyria
James Wilson 24 of 115 Elbe St died after gunshot injuries. A 22 year old Elbe Street woman is jailed as investigation continues. Police say she admitted firing the shot then fled, later returning to scene on Elbe Street. The weapon remains missing as officers comb the area.
