Open Heart Surgery First in Lorain County At Elyria Memorial
Elyria Memorial Hospital performed Lorain County s first open heart procedure on Thursday with Robert J. Elbert 57 of 88 Williams St as patient. The team included Dr Ward Young Dr Gabriel Salga and specialists from Huron Road Hospital East Cleveland. Elbert s surgery followed catheterization Aug 9 and lasted about three and a half hours in a laminar flow suite. He was recovering in intensive care and expected to sit up walk and transfer to a private room by Monday. Five more open heart operations are already scheduled at EMH.
