Susan Yvonne Perkins of Columbus won the second Miss America Pageant preliminary talent contest in Atlantic City earning a $2,000 scholarship. Her Billie Holiday song Good Morning Heartache moved judges as Perkins, a 23 year old Miami of Ohio grad, fought tears to feel the emotion of her blues performance. The Miss America finals were set for tomorrow night.

Kenneth O'Donnell, JFK aide, dies in Boston at 53
Kenneth P. O'Donnell, a top aide to John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson and a trusted Kennedy family adviser, died in Boston at age 53 after a brief ICU illness. He had been at Beth Israel Hospital since August 11. A hospital official cited family privacy on the cause of death. Senator Edward M. Kennedy called his death a loss to the nation and praised him as a fine public servant.

Area man hunted in S and L robbery
FBI named James L. Turner, 29, as prime suspect in the armed last Friday robbery of the Northern Savings and Loan Co branch on Midway Mall Boulevard. A warrant is out for Turner’s arrest for armed bank robbery as authorities seek him at Elyria and Lorain addresses. The robber stole about $8,000, masked and armed, escaped in a blue Buick later found in Sheffield Township and returned to the owner. Turner is described as about 6 feet, 140 pounds, black hair and brown eyes. FBI urges tips to 322 or local police.
