Riot at Utah state prison ends after mutineer hold Deputy Warden
In Salt Lake City on September 9 a prison riot erupted at the Utah state penitentiary. Guards and reserves responded as convicts armed with guns battled. Deputy Warden W Giles was seized for 15 minutes and injured. Louis Deathridge, a former St. Louis gangster, attempted escape but was killed by a guard. F C Hertel, jailed for assault with a deadly weapon, is believed to have led the mutiny.

Man Killed in Grafton Fall
In Columbus on September 9 the 18th Amendment campaign opened with prohibition leaders in city conferences for a 261 day nationwide crusade. Arthur R. Hulse, 45, of Dayton, fell 100 feet from a grain elevator at United Mills Company, Grafton, and died. He left seven children and was taken to Dr. Shurgot’s office, then Sudro Funeral Home. His body to be sent to Dayton tomorrow.

Alice Davis 33 of New York City and Cleveland died when the car she rode with Monte A. Dujuanhi left Route 20 half a mile south of Kipton at 1 15 am.
