Rabies vaccination program hailed as Ohio success
Ohio health officials describe the wildlife rabies vaccination effort as curbing the disease’s spread in the Midwest. Since 1997, 9.7 million vaccine baits have been dropped in 14 counties, with only a single breach in 2004 near Cleveland. The 2006 tests show five rabid raccoons, four in Lake County and one in Cuyahoga, not a major threat. The latest campaign began last week, dispersing 768,798 baits along the eastern edge and by hand in suburbs.
