On September 8 1943 widespread smog was recorded around Los Angeles marking an early air pollution event. Cool Pacific air capped by warm air aloft prevented mixing trapping pollutants, producing breezy cloudy and sunny conditions. An extended forecast anticipated very cool dry weather as high pressure settled over the region including California Oregon and surrounding states.
Subtropical Storm Gabrielle formed Friday off the southeast coast with sustained winds near 45 mph. A tropical storm watch extends from Edisto Beach to Oregon Inlet, including Pamlico Sound, as the system moves west-northwest.
Doris Anderson a grandmother of seven survived nearly two weeks in the Wallowa Mountains of Eastern Oregon after going missing on a hunting trip. Found with a body temperature at 30 degrees she was dehydrated cold and incoherent but in surprisingly good condition given the ordeal. She was hospitalized in Baker City in critical but stable condition and is expected to stay about a week as rescue teams had searched the Eagle Cap area since August 24.

With an $11.6 million net worth, he spends about $10 weekly on tickets and entered the Super 2nd Chance drawing after mailing at least $5 in losing tickets. He previously won a $250,000 DC lottery jackpot in 1997.
