McGwire ties Maris with 61st homer of season

St Louis slugger Mark McGwire hit his 61st home run off Mike Morgan, a 430 foot blast to left in the first inning, tying Roger Maris at the 37 year mark. McGwire celebrated with fist pump and high fives from Mark Grace and Gary Gaetti as he legged out the circuit.

200-Year-Old Capel Road Oak Falls In Storm

Pat Geisler reports a giant oak near Midview High School in Eaton Township, about 200 years old and 27 feet around at its base, toppled by 50 to 60 mph winds at 6:30 am. The tree wrecked part of her yard and house as it struck from the west side. No tornadoes were reported in Lorain County.

64 Year-Old Cyclist Completes 3000-Mmile Cross Country Ride

Cheryl Van Horn, 64, finished a 3000 mile bicycle tour from California to Florida. The Ohio rider joined a Woman Tours cross-country trip for women age 50 and older, part of a group that expanded to a second tour due to demand. She spoke at the Columbia Historical Society about her experiences.
