Two Men Drown Off Avon Lake While Fishing
Two Cleveland area men died while fishing off Avon Lake as northwest winds sent rough waves across Lake Erie. John G. Ludwig 59 of Berea and James W. Janota 57 of North Olmsted drowned after their boat capsized about a half mile from shore near the C. E. I. plant. Ludwig’s son John Jr. 26 survived after pulling at the boat twice. lifeguards and area fishermen attempted rescue but heavy clothing weighed the men down. Ludwig’s body was recovered nearby and Janota’s about 90 minutes later by the Coast Guard. Both families and survivors are noted, with services set for Ludwig Thursday at Baker Funeral Home and Janota Friday at St Mary’s of the Falls Church.
