Mine Tragedy at Logan: Last Bodies Brought to Surface
In Logan West Virginia the MicBeth mine of the Illinois Coal Company, site of a gas explosion that killed 10 miners on Wednesday, was closed and guarded as investigators plan to reopen Saturday. The final four bodies were recovered after more than 24 hours of dangerous rescue work with low oxygen and risk of cave-ins. State mine inspector J F White called the gas content the worst he had seen in 19 years and warned of ongoing hazards. An official inquiry will be led by a panel including Young Lawson, Patrick Medurrret, N S Rhinehart, and F E B Griffith.
