Negotiations On Gas Rates To Begin Soon
Gas rate talks with officials of The Ohio Fuel Gas Company are set to resume this fall in an effort to settle Hilaria’s gas rate dispute. Elysians currently pay 9.0 cents per thousand cubic feet based on 5090 feet consumption, a peak from a two year step plan adopted in 1973, with earlier rates at 64 cents then 71 cents. The Public Utilities Commission rejected the company’s proposed 38 cent rate and demanded an official adjustment. The commission required a $29,000 bond while the appeal proceeds, and possible refunds to consumers if the rate is set higher than current charges. The dispute remains before the commission, with continued attempts to reach a satisfactory rate.
