Wellington Ohio schools expect an eight thousand dollar winter saving from joining a Lorain County Natural Gas Consortium. Superintendent Dr. James McGlamery said the 1986 87 season rate is 78 cents per 1000 cubic feet lower with group purchase. The board also reviewed vocational agriculture plans and approved personnel and benefits changes.
Vermilion Lorain County residents can tour the Benjamin Bacon house and see demonstrations of threshing pottery blacksmithing and more at Mill Hollow Bacon Woods park four miles south of Vermilion. Free admission with music and entertainment both days and Project JOY activities for children.
Columbia Township Trustees approved a special assessment to upgrade street lighting on Plum Creek Drive. The cost rises 9.9 percent to 18.95 per parcel, added to real estate tax bills. Eight to ten lights serve roughly 47 property owners after a majority petition.
Lorain City Council will consider a reduced Leavitt Road sidewalk plan between Meister and Mark Drive to aid students. Service Director Richard Koba cautions funds may still be short despite a $10 000 city cost and prior $30 000 proposal. If approved it could be built this school year as a priority.
A fund raising tour by the Southern Lorain County Historical Society opens Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. featuring five South Main Street homes plus Wellington Town Hall and Spirit of 76 Museum. Tickets are five dollars in advance six dollars at the door with outlets listed and tours run rain or shine.
Wellington Village Council will not object to renewing Wellington Estates Inc. license for Hartford & Salem Manor at 124-126 Forest St. The home houses 10 mentally retarded and/or developmentally disabled residents. Comments must be sent by Sept. 11 to Charles Grunkemeyer, ODMRDD, Columbus. Police Chief Fureron reported few complaints and supported renewal.
Village council voted to file an objection to the American Legion Post Home on West Herrick Avenue for a D-4 permit from the Ohio Department of Liquor Control. The action follows a state inquiry and a related Oberlin Municipal Court case over two Legion employees charged with illegally selling liquor.
