Fox, 22, arrived in New Westminster after a 3,300 mile trek from St. John's to Thunder Bay. Unions Chief Sam Church fires wife as secretary
Sam Church president of United Mine Workers fired his wife Patty as a union secretary in a budget cut. She now collects 123 dollars a week in unemployment benefits in West Virginia while Church handles union business. Previously secretary at the international headquarters in Washington, she was hired by Harry Patrick, a former secretary treasurer and political rival. The firings were on a seniority basis with nine dismissals urged by consultants and another rollback suggested in May.
