Schmitz 46 and Williams 51 describe long term injuries and loss of health coverage after Republic layoffs. Schmitz relies on workers comp and Social Security disability, with July 2003 as earliest health insurance eligibility, while Williams battles eye pain, nerve issues, and high blood pressure after losing workers comp. EEOC ruled Republic violated ADA in terminating a manager with heart problems, and the firm has refused negotiation. Labor experts note vague laws shift with presidents, urging union loyalty for protection though relief is limited.

New Teaching Licenses Reshape Childrens Education System
The state adopts provisional two year licenses with renewal every five years and required professional development. An early childhood license covers K to 3 with broad subject knowledge, while a middle childhood license for grades four to nine demands 20 college hours in the chosen subject. The high school license stays largely unchanged. Districts worry grade level limits hinder staffing in rural areas.
