Hollywood Summers Beat Box Office Record Yet Falls Short
Hollywood posted a record high in domestic box office revenue for the summer with about 3.15 billion since Memorial Day, led by Spider-Man and Star Wars episodes, while admissions fell from last year’s peak. Strong performances from Signs to The Bourne Identity contrasted with flops like Pluto Nash and Simone, as My Big Fat Greek Wedding became a sleeper hit. Sony surpassed 1997 domestic gross records as it neared 1.6 billion with fall releases ahead.
