Retired New York Central Conductor Andrew J. Thieman Ends 50 Years
Andrew J. Thieman 70, a veteran New York Central conductor, retired on pension after more than five decades on the rail. He began as assistant station agent in North Amherst in 1872, rose through brakeman and conductor posts, and for 14 years has led the eastbound Fifth Avenue Limited and westbound Lake Shore Limited. He counts Roosevelt Hanna Rockefeller and Herrick among friends and retains a conductor's certificate signed by early railroad officials. Relatives in Elyria and Amherst.

Hurricane devastates Virgin Islands reports casualties and homelessness
