Mine safety fund cut sparks UMW criticism in letter
UMW Vice President Mike Trbovich terms a 1.7 million dollar cut from a federal mine safety program totally irresponsible. He notes 104 miners killed and 3,200 injured from electrical hazards over four years to 1974. He urges new prevention methods as the House Interior Appropriations subcommittee removes 1.4 million for a waste dam program and 325,000 for an electrical laboratory from the Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration budget.
