Experts warn major refiners may push into company-run gas stations, reducing independent dealers and potentially raising prices after initial cuts. Analysts cite memos showing plans to grab profitable stations and cut margins, while federal rules limit rapid takeovers. Gulf predicts slimming to 15,000 stations by 1980 with 2,000 company-run.

Lake Erie flood warnings and forecast for rising shore waters
The National Weather Service issued lake shore flood warnings for low lying areas along Lake Erie from Lorain to the Maumee River in Toledo. Heavy rains and easterly winds threatened to raise water levels at stream mouths and hinder runoff, with the greatest risk early today. Showers and thundershowers were expected to continue as a slow moving low pressure center crosses northern Indiana, with highs in the 70s to 80s and an 80 percent rain chance today. Northeast winds of 10 to 20 knots and 2 to 4 foot waves were noted on Lake Erie.
