Invacare Sues Elyria Telephone Over Service Failure

Invacare Corp filed a 22.2 million lawsuit in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas against Elyria Telephone Co and Alltel Communications Corp alleging loss of business damaged reputation and unnecessary expense from inadequate phone service. Board chair A Malachi Mixon III warned the problem could push Invacare to move headquarters if unresolved. An Alltel official cited a 2.5 million digital switch install to fix overloads, describing Oct 24 and recent peak call volumes as system overloads at Elyria.

Welfare staffers strike as county eyeing injunction

About 150 Lorain County welfare workers walked out after failed negotiations. The county plans to seek an injunction to force at least 17 workers back to operate homemaker and adult protective care units serving 40 at‑risk clients. Union says lockout occurred. talks resume with Clemens Nelson firm mediating.

Lorain contractor questioned lakefront hotel financing

Earl Griffith questioned financing and ownership terms at a public hearing on a lakefront hotel project in Lorain. He declined further comment on involvement, while officials said they had no plan to speak with him about waterfront development. Griffith is noted as a millionaire with ties to local developers and land leases near the Black River.

Reichlin in fair condition after bypass surgery

Cleveland clinic reports Leonard Reichlin in fair condition after a heart bypass operation Thursday. Peggy Reichlin says the procedure went very well and he remained in ICU with no complications and a healthy heart.
