Phosphors used to map air pollution traces in California
Tiny red yellow blue and green phosphors produced by CTE Sylvania, Inc. help scientists map industrial and automotive pollution in Los Angeles and beyond. The nontoxic particles release from four locations reveal fallout via up to 60 monitoring stations. Phosphor grains are size and color controlled and identifiable under microscopes. Preliminary tests suggest stationary sources may contribute more to pollution than previously thought.
