Ohio approves all star games after long coaches battle
After seven years of effort by Ohio football and basketball coaches, 387 of 833 principals voted for the referendum on all star games with 231 against. The Ohio High School Athletic Association will seek board approval at the November 22 meeting to formalize the plan, ending a deadlock that began in 1961 over jurisdiction on graduating athletes. The all star games have been played since 1961 with NCAA approval despite a 60 percent expense rule. The basketball game is in Marion in June and the football game in Canton in August.

NCAA considers amendment to curb recruiting intensity
NCAA president Marcus L. Plant backed an amendment aimed at reducing the intensity of recruiting for prep athletes. The proposal, possibly on the January Los Angeles convention agenda, would reinstate a rule for schools with over 1,250 male students amid rising opposition. Discussions on cutting athletic expenses and what gifts count as amateur rewards were noted.
