Soviet space mission advances as Col Georgy Beregovoy, aged 47 and a war hero, maintains a fourth day in orbit aboard Soyuz 3. Tass reports excellent health and normal systems while he messages Soviet youth on Komsomol anniversary and conducts routine exercises.
At Admiral King gymnasium Lorain the crowd largely greeted Hubert Humphrey with little heckling as 40 to 50 Oberlin College students arrived to support or oppose him. police added manpower anticipating disruption while banners for Wallace were torn by anti-Wallace factions. placards showed diverse ethnic loyalties and mixed messages with one reading Humphrey today McCarthy tomorrow.
In Lorain at Admiral King High School gymnasium a 4000 strong audience mostly students applauded Vice President Humphrey as he attacked Nixon and Wallace. He accused Nixon of broken promises and aired education and Medicare critiques while praising Democratic achievements like Lorain County Community College and local industrial growth.
Charles Stone, a veteran political button hawker, sold Humphrey buttons in the Admiral King High School lobby after Hubert Humphrey's Lorain rally. He described Humphrey as a thinker and gentleman and noted Wallace supporters are the biggest spenders though they may oppose him. He spoke of his nonpartisan business and his injuries from a Wallace rally in Moline.
UPI reports Marine, Army units pounded near Da Nang with Green Berets holding Thuong Duc. About 200 Viet Cong trapped on a rocky peninsula 15 miles northwest of Saigon, while B52s and fighters hit North Vietnam and supply lines in a heavy raid.

HUD officials granted approval for the Elyria Golden Age Center project and said a contract to build the 180 unit 13 story apartment complex would be signed. A plan to hire minority workers was approved after revisions by Lake Erie Electric Inc and Mosser Construction Inc, with an inspection to ensure compliance within three months of construction start or 30 percent electrical work completion.
Senator Eugene McCarthy announced a lukewarm endorsement of Hubert Humphrey for president and said he would not seek re election to the Senate in 1970. He plans to vote for Humphrey in November and urged followers to do the same while criticizing the Democratic Party and its processes. He cited concerns over Vietnam War policy draft reform and party reform.
