Mob pension kickback tale ties union chiefs to casino loan
Former Cleveland Mafia underboss Angelo Lonardo told the FBI that late Teamsters President Frank Fitzsimmons and an unnamed union official were paid as part of a 1974 scheme. The pair allegedly used influence to obtain a 62.7 million union pension fund loan for a mob-backed businessman to buy a casino. Lonardo claimed Fitzsimmons’ partner in the kickback was William Presser.
