Lorain activists led by Jack Lavinha of the Free Terry Anderson Committee pushed President Reagan to meet families of six Americans held in Lebanon. The White House invited the Anderson family and other kin for discussions on government efforts, as peers urged swifter action and wider congressional backing. Peggy Say, Anderson’s sister, urged Reagan to appoint a congressional delegation to Syria to press for freedom and to press the captors.

Paris art heist robs Marmottan for Monet Renoir paintings
Gunmen stormed the Marmottan Museum in Paris during visiting hours stealing nine paintings including Monet's Impression Soleil Levant and two Renoirs. At least five thieves fled in a gray car, valued around 12.5 million dollars. The alarm was reportedly inactive and officials called the theft unprecedented in scale.

Diaz spared prison after plea hearing in Lorain
Thomas N Diaz 44 of Lorain pleaded guilty to two drug trafficking counts in Lorain County Common Pleas Court Visiting Judge Lyle Castle initially sentenced him to two years in prison. Diaz sobbed and begged for mercy but a late hearing changed the sentence to 30 days in jail and three years probation with a warning to comply.

Silver Cab closes leaving Elyria taxi market lean
