Koba Restores Broadway Meters Amid Merchants’ Protests
Safety Director Richard Koba announced eight temporarily reinstated meters on Broadway between Fourth and Sixth streets due to merchant protests over parking removal. Officials may restore up to 40 meters on Gould block and Sixth to Seventh streets for Christmas. Merchants report loss of short-term business and shoppers fear safety walking downtown at night near Reid Avenue. City Council previously balked at a 125000 study on Broadway traffic. Mayor Zahorec urged flexible steps until a final solution. Koba envisions possible removal of meters later for free parking.
