A C T Straw Poll with 175 responses found 148 back nighttime trick or treat and 27 support daytime. Elyria Spring Valley School sixth graders voted 146 for night and 15 for day with officials citing safety and traffic concerns.
Medical examiners from two states began comparing the skeleton found near Honesdale to Jimmy Hoffa. The body, with valuable gold dental work, was identified through age, height, and dental clues. The FBI joined the case as authorities investigated whether the deceased matched Hoffa, who vanished in 1975.
About 100 residents received mail questionnaires from the Elyria Police Department asking which services are important and what the public expects from law enforcement. Chief Paul A. Brand and Lt. William A. Cameron say responses will shape goals, with three weeks for replies and options for in-person meetings.

The House approved a bill raising Social Security taxes for workers and employers the plan would boost the tax from 965 to 3025 for those earning 42600 in 1987 while 20000 earners pay 1420 and 10000 earners pay 710, with a Senate vote possible next week. The measure aims to keep the program solvent amid deficits and demographic shifts.
Washington AP reports clocks set back one hour to end Daylight Saving Time. Most people reset before bed Sunday night, though a few will turn clocks at 2 a.m. to show 1 a.m. The change shifts sunrise earlier and sunset earlier. the extra hour returns next spring.

If built, the structure would house the welfare department regional planning commission board of elections Comprehensive Employment and Training Act programs county school board and disaster services agency. The panel will study if space need and rental savings justify construction bonds.
