Rome reports a sudden improvement in conditions prompting the government to recall martial law after a brief proclamation. The government said military authorities would control communications and public order as fascist forces mass toward Rome with clashes reported in Florence, Pisa, and other towns.
State prosecutors prepare to present testimony to the grand jury in a seven week murder mystery case centering on Rev. Deie Ward and the Philips farm killings. Deputy Attorney General Wilbur A. Mott leads the inquiry with police and county detectives compiling statements from eight to ten witnesses in La Vallette and nearby towns. The investigation focuses on the September 16 murders and potential arrests before the grand jury verdict.
