The committee led by George Richwine plans prizes for top costumes from six to seventy year olds and for historical tableaux and entertaining stunts. Tonight at 7, mini trip meetings in council chamber finalize arrangements for a park side down town celebration with prizes donated by several clubs and groups.
In the Harris apartments at the Palace hotel Mrs. W O Harris a dancer and violinist known as Marguerite Calvert killed herself in the presence of her husband a New York tire dealer and relatives. The couple had just arrived from New York and she had appeared with Harry Lauder in New York engagements.
The death of Virgil E Rice, 87, a longtime florist who ran Oberlin's business for seventy eight years, occurred last night at his Lorain home. Survived by wife, son Karl, and brothers Tracey of Cleveland and Arthur J of Amherst. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm by Rev Neumeister at Sudro parlors. Burial at Nidgelawn.
Edward Fox of Cleveland is accused by police of sending a telegram under the name Ira M. Palips accusing his wife of bigamy kidnapping theft and insanity. Investigations suggest Fox is mentally unbalanced and may be author of the message. A borrowed auto collision occurred on Second Street causing damage to two cars. In Washington President Harding led the nation in a day of national mourning for Theodore Roosevelt.
Columbus October 27 federal prohibition commissioner Haynes said Attorney General Daughertys decision on Aquar on ships strengthens the League of Nations issue. Haynes spoke en route to Cincinnati from Washington with Ohio Indiana Kentucky enforcement officials praising the 18th Amendment and President Harding’s stance that it is here to stay. He argued a foreign court would not decide domestic matters and lauded enforcement efforts nationwide.
Judge Hand in New York ruled that steam ships under American registry are subject to all U S regulations wherever they sail and must be bone dry. He dismissed equity bills seeking to block enforcement of the liquor ban on ships and confirmed U S territorial authority over vessels abroad. Columbus dispatch notes visitors to a welfare convention with delegates and hazy references to a "hobo" vanguard and Dr James Eads Hew.
Deputy Attorney General Wilbur A. Mott said sufficient evidence exists to indict one or two suspects in the murder of Rev. Dr. Edward W. Wall rector of St. John the Evangelist Church. He noted alibi questions and statements by witnesses, including Jane Gibson, while vestryman Ralph Voorm returned home for possible questioning. Continues on page 4.
Davey linked high coal prices to a $9000 contribution from Cleveland coal operators to the Thompson primary fund. He named donors from the Hanna and Clarkson interests and urged Ohio voters to connect the figures with which candidate would govern the fuel system. He spoke at Columbia Station and Lorain events, with Elyria planned.
Helen Hijnovean of Lu-Tain files divorce against John Hijnovean alleging failure to provide and extreme cruelty. She says she supports herself by running a rooming house and co-owns a restaurant on Beneca Street. she asks for a restraining order to protect her business and seeks alimony.
Cleveland police arrested Henry J Burns this afternoon in connection with the murder of his wife Mrs Harris 29. Prosecutor Ostrander reported she was beaten into unconsciousness and buried in a shallow grave five miles northwest of the elm. Witnesses described a planned crime already debated a week earlier.
Eye witness Mrs. Jane Gibson describes returning to the Hall Mills murder scene in New Brunswick New Jersey after midnight September 14 finding a woman weeping over the victims Dr Edward Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills. She identifies a key suspect and claims new details she says prosecutors have not revealed.
In Corsicana Texas Judge Hawtarburg issued a sweeping order blocking Earl B Mayfield an alleged Ku Klux Klan candidate from appearing on the general election ballot set for November 7. The ruling denies him right to run for the United States senate and applies to the upcoming race.
Five residents of New Bavaria aged 14 to 18 died when the automobile they rode in was struck by a B and O freight train near Holgate ten miles south of Napoleon. Victims were Virgil Brown 18 Thelma Stimet 18 Larry Schwab 16 Cecilia Royal 15 and John Roral 14. The car occupants were returning from a party when the tragedy occurred.
Two ex servicemen traveling from New York to California were in a collision on Hast avenue near the Brown hotel when a one ton truck struck their Ford at 4 10 this morning. The truck fled. The car suffered severe damage and both men, one with shrapnel wounds behind the ear, stayed at the hotel while the healthier man tends the other. They hope to raise 375 to repair the car and resume the trip.
Washington county election board officials were surprised to receive voter ballots in the name of President and Mrs W G Harding for the upcoming election. Envelopes addressed from the White Hallor were misdirected due to Marietta Marion postal confusion and a clerical error.
C Dreschow 36 died at his Stow home from trench mouth contracted in France. A Mason, he leaves a widow and his mother in St. Louis.
The divorce case of Thomas E. Bruce against Elate Bruce of Amherst is being tried before Judge Redington. It is vigorously contested with many Amherst residents called as witnesses. The judge plans to adjourn early, so completion is unlikely today and may extend to tomorrow.
Word reached here today of the death of Bishop George Heamilier, 70, of the Evangelical church. He died in a car bus accident on the neck road near Deal. The news is widely felt in this district and beyond.

Mrs. Mabel C. Champion a 22 year old from Texas shot and killed Thomas A. O Connell at the Downing restaurant on Buchid avenue after an altercation with O Connell and Ansley Champion the husband. William H Conklin former restaurant cashier testified describing the sequence and gun used a 44 caliber revolver.
Judge Elbert H. Gary of United States Steel and American Iron and Steel Institute warns that normal conditions in the United States have not returned and may not without extraordinary efforts. He criticizes excessive regulation, urges free supply and demand, and praises President Harding while opposing foreign debt cancellation and noting a steel labor shortage.
Chief Stankard has issued no warning to boys about the city but cites many complaints of lawlessness and vandalism. He orders arrests and prosecutions for unlawful acts and promises a sharp lookout citywide.
