Parade of ghosts to light Elyria Friday night

Elyria prepares for the annual Halloween parade with a 7 40 P M start. Police Chief E J Stankard and marshal Liew A L Richwine lay out the route and five divisions include the Ohio National Guard, Boy Scouts, school groups, the Elyria High School band, and several area schools. Invitations extend to Carlisle and Elyria Townships and other organizations. A committee meeting at the Chamber of Commerce is set for tonight.

Miss Josephine Roche, assistant secretary of the treasury, submitted her resignation effective November 1 and plans to return as president of the Rocky Mountain Fuel Co. Roosevelt has not yet accepted the resignation.

Red Cross Roll Call Reports Coming In More Rapidly Now

Elyria Chanter of the American Red Cross reports faster roll call submissions as canvass efforts wrap in Elyria schools. Junior Red Cross at all grade schools shows 100 percent enrollment under Miss Anna Louise Baker. Elyria High School reports complete canvass with $69 raised though totals may be higher with homesubscriptions. Industrial plants and business districts report slower returns, with fraternal groups lagging, weather earlier in the week delaying workers, yet final tallies are expected to rise and exceed last year’s figures.

Shanghai Battles as Japanese Force Way Into City

Franklin Peterman Making Fine Recovery

Franklin Peterman seven year old son of Mr and Mrs P A Peterman of 112 Fourth Street was reported by Elyria Memorial Hospital authorities today to be making excellent recovery. The boy was near death for several days from a fractured skull suffered October 10 when he was struck in front of his home by an automobile.

Union Factions In Deadlock On Proposals

Washington October 27 A labor peace conference between the Committee for Industrial Organization and the American Federation of Labor reached a critical point as both sides rejected alternate unity proposals. The CIO charged the AFL with obstructing mass production and rejected a peace plan seeking dissolution of the CIO and return of rebels to the parent body. CIO Chairman Philip Murray said the talks were deadlocked as the federation demanded autonomy within a separate department and the right to organize mass and basic material industries.

U S Steel Declares Common Stock Dividend and Leadership Shakeup

United States Steel announces a new phase with Myron C Taylor stepping down as chairman and Edward R Stettinius Jr taking the role. A one dollar dividend on common stock is declared payable December 20 to holders on November 20 1965. Building Collapses in Minneapolis Leaves 18 Buried

In Minneapolis loop an early morning collapse of two floors of a three story wholesale fruit company left eighteen buried beneath debris. One body was recovered about thirty minutes after the wreck. Five severely injured were hospitalized. Survivors blamed no explosion, saying upper floors collapsed under heavy loads.

Train Hits Auto Kills Brownhelm Man Near Kipton Crossing

Albert C. Ward, 71, a Brownhelm resident, died instantly when his roadster was struck by a New York Central freight at a Kipton crossing west of the depot. The car was dragged 75 feet.
