Complaints Against Attorneys Rise in Ohio Courts
TOLEDO AP The number of complaints against lawyers is rising though still a small percentage of practitioners. Chief Justice Thomas Moyer noted a trend in a Blade report. About 7,500 to 8,000 annual complaints, many unfounded, come from unhappy clients or fee disputes. Roughly 120 cases are pending, doubled in a decade, with more lawyers in practice and tougher economics. Some cases lead to disbarment or criminal charges, including recent grand theft cases in Lucas County.
