Elyria residents weigh a 0.5 earned income tax renewal to fund police, fire, parks, and street maintenance. If defeated, the city could cut 25–35 police jobs, 10–20 firefighters, two fire stations, and 8–12 parks workers, totaling about 19 percent of the budget. Mayor Keys stresses renewal is not a new tax.
State Patrol reports 31 year old David Rossow of Grafton was injured when his motorcycle struck the right side of a westbound car driven by Patrick Kenny and driven into a ditch east of Island Road on Route 82. Rossow, cited for passing on the right, was transported to EMH Elyria in fair condition with a broken shoulder.
