Strange triple funeral for Patterson family tragedy in Huntington
Huntington, October 24. Triple funeral services will be held for Samuel W. Patterson, his wife, and their son Thomas Cleveland Patterson. The son killed his parents with a hatchet then bled to death after slitting his wrists, leaving a note about murder by a ghost and a wish to be cremated. Samuel Patterson, a coal operator, was a pioneer in southern West Virginia. Thomas, Yale graduate of 1927, had published poetry and morbid prose. The Patterson brothers arrived for the services.
