York begins hiring for move to Elyria

York International plans relocating Madisonville Kentucky operations to Elyria with about 500 new jobs over several years. About 70 workers are already hired, 73 by the controller, as talks continue with Ohio for a two year worker training program and a 30 day extension. Public defender oversight eyed by Lorain County panel

Lorain Officials Toughen Policy Against Gangs

Lorain Police and Lorain City Schools announced a policy banning gangs and gang paraphernalia from schools and property. Vermilion lighthouse beacon shines on Lake Erie shore

Arson suspected in California fire that killed 24

The Oakland area blaze that destroyed thousands of homes may have been arson, fire officials said as rain raised mudslide fears. Neighbors pointed to debris burning by construction workers. arson investigators questioned two builders and the man who hired them. The fire, started Saturday and fed by drought dried brush, left 1,800 acres bare and 24 dead with 25 missing as crews searched for remains. Rescue dogs aided the tedious process, while barriers and soil stabilization measures were planned ahead of expected rains.
